Special Issue Introduction
Two-dimensional Metal Oxides have aroused increasing attention because of their unique properties such as high carrier mobility, tunable bandgap, high stability, high microfabrication, high transparency, mechanical flexibility, and strong quantum confinement effect. Therefore, they have been widely investigated for electro- and photocatalytic applications, including field-effect transistors (FETs) and logic circuits, photodetectors, piezotronics/piezo-phototronics, memristors, batteries, and more. Nevertheless, the physicochemical properties of two-dimensional metal oxide materials and their excellent performance in applications are closely related to their microstructure. Consequently, it is vital to clarify the relationship between microstructure regulation (various oxidation-state forms, polymorphism, crystalline, anisotropy, point defects, grain boundary, etc.) and properties of two-dimensional metal oxides and their influence on their performance. We welcome contributions from research scientists in academia, industry, and government institutes.
