Special Topic Introduction
Fractional-order system theory, rooted in fractional calculus (FC), offers unique memory and nonlocal dynamics for modeling complex systems beyond integer-order frameworks. Its integration with control and optimization theories has driven remarkable advances in precision and adaptability. Emerging intelligent paradigms—particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs)—now present unprecedented opportunities to further enhance its performance. Aligned with the focus of Intelligent Control Systems, this Special Issue aims to bridge fractional-order theory with control, optimization, and intelligence, focusing on three core synergies: novel fractional control strategies, efficient fractional optimization algorithms, and bidirectional integration between AI and FC (i.e., AI for FC and FC for AI). We solicit original research on theoretical innovations, LLM-driven fractional design, and real-world applications, aiming to promote cross-disciplinary exchange and advance the frontiers of intelligent fractional systems. Submissions emphasizing robustness, scalability, and AI-enabled breakthroughs are highly encouraged.
