Special Issue Introduction

The Special Issue Polyoxometalate-based Molecular Assemblies and Multifunctional Materials aims to showcase cutting-edge research on the design, synthesis, and functionalization of polyoxometalates (POMs), emphasizing their structural diversity, tunable physicochemical properties, and broad applications. Given the rapid advancements and increasing scholarly attention in this field over the past three years, this issue will highlight the latest breakthroughs in synthetic methodologies, molecular assembly strategies, and the rational modulation of POM-based architectures.

A particular focus will be placed on gaining an in-depth understanding of POM-derived materials at the molecular and nanoscale levels through theoretical calculations and advanced instrumental characterization techniques. The issue will also explore the expanding applications of these materials in catalysis, energy conversion and storage (such as electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and rechargeable batteries), biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences (including drug delivery and bioimaging), and environmental sustainability (such as wastewater treatment and carbon dioxide reduction). By integrating fundamental insights with emerging applications, this issue seeks to provide a comprehensive perspective on the potential of POM-based materials in addressing contemporary scientific and technological challenges.
