Special Issue Introduction

In recent years, organometallic chemistry has become a critical driver in the development of sustainable functional materials, responding to the global demand for greener technologies, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible material design. With increasing focus on sustainability, the scientific community has shifted attention not only to the development of novel organometallic compounds with tailored functionalities but also to understanding their reaction mechanisms, optimizing resource utilization, minimizing toxicological risks, and promoting eco-friendly synthetic pathways.

The growing interest in organometallic catalysts for green transformations, the design of low-toxicity organometallic frameworks for electronic and energy applications, and the life-cycle assessment of material synthesis processes reflect a significant shift toward incorporating environmental impact considerations at the core of synthetic strategy development. Furthermore, advancements in computational chemistry, high-throughput experimentation, and in situ characterization techniques have significantly accelerated the rational design of safer and more sustainable organometallic systems.

This Special Issue of Chemical Synthesis aims to capture the latest developments and inspire further innovation at the interface of organometallic synthesis and sustainable material science. We welcome high-quality original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that explore, but are not limited to, the following topics:

● Novel organometallic compounds and complexes for functional material applications;

● Mechanistic insights into organometallic-mediated synthesis processes;

● Development of environmentally benign and energy-efficient synthetic strategies;

● Organometallic approaches to recyclable and biodegradable materials;

● Computational and experimental studies on toxicity, stability, and environmental impact;

● Green chemistry principles applied to organometallic material synthesis;

● Advanced characterization techniques for organometallic materials.

We warmly invite researchers from academia and industry to contribute to this Special Issue. Your submissions will not only enrich the ongoing dialogue on sustainable synthesis but also help shape the future of organometallic chemistry toward safer and more responsible material innovation.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions!
